The Dodge Challenger is a beautiful retro themed coupe. All the line-ups come with an array of features. The base version of the 2013 model has automatic climate control, power windows, locks and mirrors, cruise control, CD player, trip computer, keyless entry, and a power driver’s seat. You will get plush Nappa leather seats in SXT models. Heated front seats, ParkSense park assist, fog lamps are the additional features. The Rallye Redline edition comes with lower axle ratio, performance suspension, bigger disc brakes and steering tune. The Rallye model has a typical ‘bad boy’ look about it. The higher models come with Boston Acoustics Premium, HID headlamps, navigation system and in-car wireless internet with a plug in cell network data dongle.
Handling of the 2013 Dodge Challenger
We took the Challenger for a spin at Sport Durst DCJ by Raleigh. We noticed there is a definite difference in performance among the various versions of the Dodge Challenger. The cheapest Challenger SXT comes with a 305 horsepower 3.6 litre V-6 engine. It is combined with a five speed automatic transmission. The Rallye Redline versions are available in Sport mode with steering wheel paddle shifters. If you want a solid muscle car then the R/T model will be the best for you. The engine is HEMI V-8 which can create a thrust of 375 horsepower. However the top model SRT8 still takes away the credit of having the maximum power. The 6.4 litre engine which produces 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque is a giant of an engine. It can come with manual or automatic transmission. The longer wheelbase coupled with a tuned suspension gives more on road presence to the car. The SRT8 models now provide an adaptive suspension which can operate in normal and shock modes as well.
Design of the 2013 Dodge Challenger
The Dodge Challenger can easily be bestowed with the tag of being the biggest and strongest of the muscle cars. The 2013 version is both classy and aggressive. The classic long nose of the car is the main highlight. The tall shoulder line and short windows give it a macho look though it somewhat hinders outward visibility. The SRT8 model has the best detailing of a true muscle car. The air dams, functional brake ducts, special badging, xenon headlamps, carbon fibre trim, and rough aerodynamics make it a top choice among the potential buyers. Opt for a Ram air hood or various striping packages that are available. The interiors are modern and mostly bare. The pistol grip shifter can be a mood spoiler. Some versions come fitted with a touch LCD screen.
Conclusion
The too light steering and exhaust note may disturb you but overall ride comfort is excellent in the 2013 Dodge Challenger. Though neither of the U.S. agencies has rated the car, it includes various safety equipments. Safety features include electronic stability control, front, side curtain bags and anti-lock brakes. The SRT8 model has Brembo brakes and Hill Start Assist. The Driver’s knee bag, rearview camera and blind-spot monitors also assist in the safety of the car.
