This unique 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T is a two-owner example that has been with its present owner since 1979. At that time it had been driven 30,609 miles and had a 1973 state inspection sticker on the windshield. It had not been driven since 1974, and had been stored inside out of the weather. The second owner has driven the car sparingly but enough to keep it mechanically supple, adding another 3,500 miles for a total of 33,955 original miles.
Chuck Smith Classic Cars performed a frame-off restoration completed in 2012 using original and NOS Mopar parts, after which the car was put on display for two years at Floyd Garrett’s Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville, Tennessee. This R-code Hemi Challenger R/T boasts a date code correct 426/425 HP Hemi engine, the original Torqueflite automatic transmission and 4.10:1 Dana rear end and the original Shaker hood. It incorporates the A32 Super Performance Axle Package, which includes the Hemi-specific seven-blade Torque Drive fan, dual-point ignition and 26-inch heavy-duty radiator with shroud, power front disc brakes and Sure Grip differential.
Other optional features include a deluxe Black interior with high-back vinyl bucket seats featuring White and Black cloth houndstooth inserts, console with slap-stick shifter, AM radio with 8-Track tape player and adjustable rear speaker, three-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, Rallye instrumentation and in-dash clock. The car has been refreshed in EF8 factory Dark Green Metallic paint with V9X factory painted Black transverse bumble bee stripe instead of the factory tape side stripes, and incorporates dual chromed outside mirrors and 15-inch Rallye wheels with correct Goodyear Polyglas GT tires.
It is listed in the Chrysler Registry as one-of-one 1970 Hemi R/T Challengers equipped with its particular set of colors and options. It is being offered for the first time since 1979 and comes with great documentation including three original broadcast sheets, previous registrations and state inspections, mileage documentation and photos of the car spanned over the current owner’s 36-year stewardship.
