Campaigned from 1970-1975 by Struse, Smith & Welsh, the story of Project Six Pack was documented in the pages of “Super Stock” magazine for more than seven years. In total, articles surrounding Project Six Pack appeared in more than 77 magazines through 2002. A 3-time NHRA class record holder, Project Six Pack is one of the most authentic restored 55/A in the world, retaining its original sheet-metal, original glass, original record setting engine, restored Fenton Gyro wheels, Stahl mechanical tachometer and Dana 60 axle.
Restored in 2009 by Best of Show Automotive, the attention to detail on this restored muscle car era drag racer is nothing short of astonishing, from the original Hooker headers, to the painstakingly reproduced lace paint, to the original windshield wipers lying in the trunk, banded together with duct tape. And don’t mention the engine – a 7.2 L V8 monster muscle car heart paired with 4-speed manual transmission. With the help of the original owner of Project Six Pack, this restored NHRA record holder sets the standard for authenticity for a car of this kind. Project Six Pack was unveiled at the 2009 Carlisle All Chryslers National, at a special event attended by the “who’s who” of the 1960’s and 1970’s drag racing world, including former “Super Stock” Editor Jim McGraw, Ted Struse, Terry Welsh, Bob Karakashian, John Wehrley, Herb McCandless, Al Adams, Tom Hoover and Tom Coddington. All of these gentlemen were kind enough to sign the deck-lid of Project Six Pack.
Project Six Pack is a significant piece of muscle car history and is being sold with all original “Super Stock” magazine articles, the original NHRA Class Record Certificates, on top of the original Window Sticker, dealer paperwork and Chrysler Corporation Broadcast Sheet.
